Online Dating In Kenya Are Kenyans Getting Accustomed To It?

OK so today I would like us to look at online dating in Kenya and see if people are now getting used to it, because few years back, if you told someone that you are doing online dating, they would look at you as if you have suddenly grown an extra head or have turned into an alien lol 🙂 I remember my best friend looking at me as if she did not recognize the person standing next to her, when I told her that I had created a profile on a dating site and I am talking to men online.

She looked at me as if I was speaking in a foreign language, see a few years back and I am going back just 8 or 10 years ago, it was almost taboo to say that you are doing online dating in Kenya because, people looked at you as if there is something wrong with you, or as if you hate your people and you’ve decided to get on the internet to look for foreigners.

Online dating in Kenya was almost taboo a few years ago

I am speaking from experience, the most popular question I got, was what is wrong with Kenyan men, why don’t you want to date Kenyan men? But the truth is that Online dating does not necessarily mean that you are just looking for foreigners, in fact, there is a dating site created by Cupid Media and its called Kenyan cupid, this is a site dedicated to connecting Kenyans, and to be honest, I had created a profile there but because it was in its early stages, there were not many members.

Couples are no longer afraid to admit that they met online

But now Kenyan Cupid has grown and has many members actually that’s what pushed me to do this post because I can see that many Kenyans are now embracing online dating and they are creating accounts on dating sites, and meeting people as a matter of fact most of wedding videos I watch on Youtube,(I love watching wedding videos) you find couples are not afraid to admit that they met online and that is a good thing, although I do come across few couples who are embarrassed to admit that they actually met online but its OK, as long as they are happy, It really doesn’t matter.

As a matter of fact during my research for this post, I have found out that Kenya has its own dating sites now, one being, Date me Kenya this is a website created by a guy who lives in Kenya and he says its goal(the website) is to connect Kenyan professional Singles.

The only thing I found strange about this particular site, is the fact that they seem to want to cater to the high society of Kenya, I mean with rejection rate being as high as 70% surely this site has an eye on the kind of people they want on their site, First they ask you a gazillion questions, and then they will decide if you are worthy of their precious matchmaking site, Oh and remember each message you send to someone within the site, that’s if you get approved, well, each message will have to be screened and approved too, so yeah big brother is watching.

With a membership fee of as high as $100 per month surely, only a few will make the cut

And in fact the founder admitted on an interview that they wanted to make it difficult for people to join, I guess they wanted to make sure that the regular Kenyans are not able to join you know the minimum wages people.

But for regular Kenyans, who don’t qualify to join the date me Kenya website, all hope is not lost, there is Tinder, Badoo and of course Kenyan Cupid, the thing is, people have met even on Twitter and gotten married and went on to have a happy life. you can join a high society site and spend crazy money and still not meet anyone, so date me Kenya says that their goal is to connect people online and then get them to move their relationship offline as soon as possible.

Keep in mind that even if you go offline, the matchmaking site holds events that cost big money and as a member, you will be pushed to attend so they will still make money out of you, and don’t let anybody lie to you by telling you that the money they collect from memberships is for keeping the website going, that is a big lie, you really don’t need much to keep a website going, you just need hosting and tech support and monitoring that’s it.

So yeah date me Kenya is a business just like any other matchmaking business.

Now would I recommend date me Kenya to my readers, hey its really up to you to decide, if you want to connect with Kenyan professionals and high society plus expats who are living in Kenya, then absolutely go for it, but if you really don’t discriminate and you just want to meet Kenyan singles regardless of their social and economic status, then I say just join the regular sites.

Money does not determine your quality as a human being

The truth of the matter is, the amount of money a person earns does not determine whether they are quality people or not, if a woman earns a lot of money, that does not mean she is a quality woman, and the same goes for men, sure there are rich people who are humble, but there are also rich people who are arrogant and very full of themselves, so money does not necessarily improve one’s character.

Besides, you will never fully know someone until you live with them, people always put their best foot forward when they are on the internet, so whether you join an expensive site or just the regular sites, you still have a chance of meeting a good person just as you have a chance of meeting a bad person.

Now I understand that the high-class people want their own site where they can mingle and that is perfectly fine, so if you think you have what it takes, then sign up with the site and see what you think, I guess its nice to meet like-minded people, but personally I judge people based on the content of their character and not the size of their bank account.

Can money buy you love and happiness?

I am so lucky to be able to associate with people from all walks of life and this has taught me that money is good and its good to work hard and make your economical dreams come true, but when it comes to love and happiness, it really goes back to the saying money can not buy you happiness or love. I have seen two rich people get together and get married and I have seen the same people divorce within a year of marriage.

I have also seen middle-class people build a happy home for their family but to be fair, I have also met couples who are very rich, meaning the women have big money of their own and the men have big money of their own and they do build a beautiful life together too. What I am trying to say is that the money and the property does not determine the success of a relationship.

If you would like to join online dating in Kenya, don’t be scared, just go for it

So if you are a Kenyan and you want to join the world of online dating, don’t be afraid just create a profile on one of many dating sites, whether its the international ones like match.com or international Cupid, just go for it, and if you are a Christian, there are Christian dating sites too, and if you want a high end dating sites, they are also available.

I really wish you luck on your quest to find a partner, and I really hope you find someone that you can build your happy ever after with.
