A 60 year old man marries a 19 year old?
In this article we are going to look at the challenges that could be brought by age difference between online dating couples. age difference in online relationships is very common especially in international online dating, the biggest difference that I have heard of was of 60 year old American man who married a 19 year old girl from the Philippines.
That is over 40 years age gap, and as much as I would like to believe that a 19 year old girl is in love with a man who is old enough to be her grandfather, I have lots of doubts and I am sure you do too.
When the age gap is that big, there will be lots of challenges, for one, the two people are in different stage of their lives and so what a 60 year old man finds interesting, the 19 year old might not find it interesting. also the younger person is full of energy and might want to go to clubs and other activities that the older person might find too straining, so as much as you say at 60 you are full of energy, there will come a time when things will start getting complicated.
I am not going to judge those who get online looking for a younger partner but I will say this, when you get involved with a younger woman or a younger man, just make sure you will be able to keep up with the demands of that kind of relationship, because if you can’t you relationship won’t go very far. And also be prepared to deal with the fact that a 19 or 20 year old will act their age, and you demanding that they act differently will cause lots of trouble in your relationship.
What is the motive?
The other challenge that this kind of relationship could face is the motive of the both parties, usually these types of relationships are driven by economical status of the younger person and the fantasy of the older person, like in the case of the 60 year old American guy I mentioned, the first thing he did as soon as his young Filipino wife landed in America was buy her an expensive car and took her to designer shops to buy expensive things.
Now the younger person will act all lovey dovy because of all the material things they are getting, but keep in mind that there will come a time where they will get tired of being with an older person and that’s when the cheating begins, another problem of having a large age gap between a couple, there is a lot of insecurities. so small fights will erupt very often.
With all that being said, there are rare cases where the couple despite the age gap could actually be in love with one another and have a wonderful life together, so it really depends on the couple and what they are looking for although I am yet to see a young woman who marries an older man who is poor or has just an average income.
Ok so lets say the couple has met online, they have fallen in love with one another, and lets say the guy is 60 and the girl is 20, there will come a time when the girl will want to have children, will the guy be ready to start changing diapers in his 60’s the same goes for women lets say the guy is 30 and the woman is 50, do you really think the young man won’t want to have children of his own? OK I know Janet Jackson had her baby at 50 but is that something that you would consider doing? having a baby at 50?
I mean think about it, first of all l honestly don’t think your eggs can still be viable at 50, which means that you will require treatments like IVF to be able to conceive, maybe with donor eggs, are you prepared to go through all that? if you are, more power to you.
Before getting in a large age gap relationship, there is a lot to consider
I think before getting involved in a large age gap relationship, there are many things to consider, and many things to discuss with your partner, and its better to be honest and to put everything on the table before rushing to the alter, remember many young people want to better their lives and especially young people from poor countries and they will tell you what you want to hear in order to get what they want.
Honestly when you get involved with a person who is so much younger than you, you are going to face challenges, so be prepared, myself even if I was to find myself on the dating scene again, I would never consider getting involved with a 20 year old man because, as much as I feel young and vibrant, I don’t think I would have much in common with a 20 year old man.
Its possible to have a successful relationship within a reasonable age gap
So in conclusion, I think its possible to have a successful relationship, with a age gap of 10 or even 15 years if the guy is the older one, but for women I think maybe if the woman is older by 5 to 10 years the relationship could work, but when age gap is so wide, the relationship will have lots of turbulence and it might not survive, so when you are doing your online dating, try get as close to your age group as you can.
Of course each relationship will face its own challenges and its up to the couple to figure out how they can make it work, but a relationship with a large age gap will definitely have more chances of being rocky.
