Skincare Check List for Summer 2019

With the hot weather comes a big responsibility to make sure that your skin and hair does not get damaged during the hot months. And even though the hot weather brings lots of fun, with playing in the water and lots of BBQs and great times with family and friends, or holiday getaways to exotic lands, the hot Weather and humid weather can also cause lots of damage to your skin and hair, So I have created a checklist for you to consider for this summer.

This is a detailed checklist for summer 2019, as summer approaches, there some things you need to make sure that you have, some are obvious like sunscreen and sunglasses. But one of the things that you must remember to pack before you head off to your exotic location for a summer holiday is a shampoo that is capable of washing off the salt from your hair, and a body wash that will do the same for your skin.

If you have dry skin, the salt in the sea water will dry out your skin even further, so it’s wise to clean off all the salt from your skin and then apply a rich hydrating moisturizer. and the same goes for your hair too, you need to invest in a deep and nourishing conditioner. After thoroughly cleansing your hair, you need to give it a deep conditioning treatment.

And to help you prevent sun damage on your face, it’s wise to wear a hat as well as using your sunscreen. Also, remember to use an after sun moisturizer when you get back to your room, most after sun lotions or creams are very soothing especially if you have been in the sun for a long time, try to find the kind of lotion or cream that contains Aloe Vera.

We have talked about the sea and the salt, but what about pool and the chemicals in the pool, I find that the chlorine dries my skin a lot and makes my hair very brittle and hard to handle, most of the times I use hair mask after being in the pool because that’s the only way to get my hair back to its natural state.

Try to swim without getting your hair wet.

So, I think if you can, try not to deep your head in the pool every day it will be very helpful to keep your hair from the chlorine damage, I have actually learned how to swim without getting my head wet, thanks to a very dear friend and neighbor of mine, she taught me how to swim without getting my hair wet.

But if you are having too much fun in the pool and can’t help getting your hair wet, then you need to give your hair special care to make sure it doesn’t get damaged by the chemicals.

Our friends at 100%pure have shampoo and conditioner that will keep your hair healthy and silky all summer long regardless of how long you spend in the sea or pool.

And when it comes to skin, I do find that my skin is very dry when I get out of the pool so what I do is take a shower and wash off all the chlorine from my skin and I apply olive oil or rich body butter.

But on the face I apply a rich and hydrating face cream that contains Aloe Vera and oils to make sure that my skin on my face is well hydrated and moisturized the creams don’t have to be greasy, they can appear light and yet be very hydrating, so look out for a cream that has ingredients like Aloe Vera as I mentioned earlier, and JoJoba oil or Avocado oil is very good for your skin as well as olive oil.

In the summer I drink a lot of water and eat plenty of watermelons

But the best gift you can give your skin during summer months, is Water, I know you’ve read this many times but I am telling you water is your best friend, drink as much water as you can, and in the summer months its easy to drink water than in the winter so take advantage of this and drink lots of water.

I find it easier to drink water in the summer so I drink a lot of plain water, I also eat a lot of watermelons which also contributes to my daily water intake. Speaking of watermelon, fruits and fresh vegetables are very beneficial for your skin, I know I am not telling you anything new but if you want smooth youthful skin, You have to start from within and nourish your skin from inside.

Remember to exfoliate your skin at least once a week, and also to give yourself a spa moment by putting a hydrating face mask at least once a week to give your skin a bit of TLC. and don’t forget your neck, feet, and arms as well as shoulders, because these parts of your body are exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

Always apply sunscreen to these parts.

The eye area is one place that you have to be very careful about in the summer months because the skin around your eyes is very delicate, you need to protect it with a high strength sunscreen and also you need to invest in a good eye cream. And this applies to both men and women, eye cream is one thing that you should make sure you are using especially if you are over 35 years old.

You also need to use less makeup in the summer months because too much makeup combined with heat and humidity, will make  clog your pores and make it hard for your skin to breath which could cause irritation and breakouts, in the summer months I would recommend staying away from heavy foundations and concealers as well as heavy powders, just go with a light BB cream or a tinted face cream, then a touch of waterproof mascara and a lipgloss and you are good to go, besides heavy makeup in the summer doesn’t look nice and it will dirty your clothes.

My next tip will not work for you if you are gonna be wearing heavy make up all day. I recommend that you take a face mist with you, to keep spraying your face so your skin can be refreshed and you can prevent the drying of the skin, and you don’t even have to buy the overrated body mists, you can make one right at home.

Just grab a cucumber, grate it and then squeeze the juice into a small bowl, then strain it and mix it with half a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil and 3 spoons of rose water, and then just use an old spray bottle that you might have in your house, just pour all the ingredients in the bottle and shake before use, that’s it.

So below is a checklist for you to consider this summer

  1. Sunscreen
  2. A hat
  3. face mist
  4. Sunglasses
  5. Shampoo that washes the salt and pool chemicals from your hair
  6. Body wash to wash off sea salt and chemicals
  7. After sun lotion/cream
  8. Drink lots of water at least 2 liters a day
  9. Eye cream
  10. Hair removal kit

And that is a short list for you so you can make sure, your skin stays healthy in the summer, I hope you have found some things to add to your own list.
